He didn't much care for people, even less he cared for crowd and crowds of people. So the fact that he had to every so often come here, to this busy bustling port city for supplies, never made Aleister a happy camper by any stretch of the word. If he could he'd just slip through the crowds quickly and quietly and go unnoticed though he was hardly one to be ignored.
If his tattered lab coat didn't draw attention to him then the simple fact of how he held himself, walking forward on the front of his feet, his back hunched over himself making him look more beast than man- certainly did. The regulars around here would just ignore it, he was strange and eccentric and that much was common knowledge. Those who'd lived around the area for long enough might attribute it to the fire that had not been unheard of. Regardless though people tended to avoid him as much as he did them.
He was heading out of one of the large stores, loading a truck with equipment for fixing a small malfunction in the cooling chamber that kept the arctic caverns running smoothly. Lately it had been on the fritz and he hadn't the parts needed to fix it on hand, hence the need for this Journey into his own human infested hell. A few large (easily twice the weight of a well built man for that matter) bags of food ingredients as well were being tossed in the back as well.
Nana sat atop the roof of the truck, half dozing half keeping watch on her slightly maladjusted friend. Honestly if it wasn't for her being there he was fairly certain he'd of had a melt down by now. Just about done, just a few last things to load up and they could go back to his island, safe and away from all these people.
With a heavy grunt he managed the bag up into the bed sighing out heavily. He was a scientist yes but he did more than just sit at a desk all day. His job kept him pretty active so he didn't have too much trouble with the lifting. His gaze turned towards the on coming ship in the distance sighing quietly to himself. No way he'd be done in time to get out of here before it docked, he could only hope people coming to the city would leave him well enough alone just like the inhabitants did.

"Shh," Taivas hushed his restless Noctowl, who was beginning to become belligerent around the multitude of people in the large port city. He ran his fingers down the large owl's back, brushing the feathers and calming the bird. He really didn't want to have to put Archimedes back in his Pokeball again.
Professor Taivas Cogitare was a bit out of place in Platinum Port. Contrasting the shorts, t-shirts, and flip flops of those around him, the professor was clothed in a classier attire. He was wearing his favorite gray suit, jacket and all, a lovely blue tie, diagonally patterned between blue and shades of blue-gray, and his freshly shined shoes. Taivas pulled out a silver pocket-watch, staring briefly at the time. That other gym leader he had traveled here with, Jake, had been gone for nearly fifteen minutes, and, scanning the park, Taivas saw no sign of the young man.
"Archy, be a friend and check the area for our companion. I'm curious if he's almost done with his errand. The S.S. Eve is supposed to arrive in short time, and I'd rather not be late to meet my contact."
Noctowl stared at the professor for a moment before its massive wings extended, and the bird lifted off into the air. Yes, it had been an interesting journey. A former acquaintance of Taivas's, from his excavations in Orre, had called in an old favor. Apparently a man with the Templars of Steel would be arriving on the same boat as the new Elite Four member, and she needed Taivas to assist him with whatever he needed. She hardly had to ask before Taivas agreed. He had been researching the Mercury Ruins, but had unfortunately hit a block in his research, and a distraction would be more than adequate to refresh his weary mind.
Taivas reached inside his bag, producing a small curved pipe. As he began filling the bowl with his favorite tobacco, a blend mixed with honey from the best Beedrills in Kanto, he stared off toward the ocean. The blue expanse stretched onwards for eternity, but off in the distance he could make out a faint dot of a ship he was hoping was the S.S. Eve. Taivas sucked on the stem of his pipe for a moment, deciding that the bowl was packed properly. He withdrew a match and lit the bowl, staring at a very peculiar man making his way past the crowds. As quickly as he noticed the man, though, his attention fell, as he noticed his Noctowl returning, hopefully with some results.

Jake Kellner sat on the roof of a small building near the edge of the town, accompanied by Mandibuzz and Haunter. They watched as the ocean waves crashed onto the beach and constantly scanned the water for a ship with the Arthias Champion and an Elite Four member on it. His Pokemon seemed to be enjoying themselves, relaxing in the heat of the sun. But Jake's mind was far from relaxed.
Today was the day. Kurtis and Tristan would be arriving soon enough, and Jake was growing nervous. After all, it's been years since he had seen either of his old friends in person. While he was eager to see them again, the thought of them continued to bring back haunting memories for Jake. He couldn't help but associate them with the deaths of his beloved Pokemon. Jake shuddered as the images went through his head yet again. Haunter put a hand on his shoulder, sensing his trainer's pain. "What am I doing?", Jake thought to himself. "The whole reason I'm out here 'buying Pokeballs' is to take my mind off this crap". There was also the fact that Jake was horrible at conversation. He had to come up with some excuse to kill time and avoid the dreaded "small talk".
"Welp, we better be getting back to the professor, eh guys? I'm sure he's wondering why it's taking so long just to gather a few supplies" Mandibuzz stood up and stretched out her wings as Jake carefully stood up on the slanted roof. Some people on the ground had seemed a bit irritated about the place they had chosen to take a load off anyway. The Xeno Village gym leader stretched his arms out to the side and his Pokemon immediately grabbed on. A strong gust of air beat down on him, and a moment later they were flying through the air.
It didn't take long for them to reach a rather impatient looking Taivas Cogitare. "Hey Professor Cogitare, any sign of our ship?" Jake greeted him after slowly descending back to solid ground.

He felt the gaze briefly pass over him, some might call the man paranoid but if the feeling of being watched was true, was it really paranoia? His eyes glancing around a bit sporadically trying to place who it was, finding the other just in time from him to look away, as he was soon joined by a Noctowl and another person. He recognized their faces, only out of the fact that being a professor around here required that you know certain people- fellow researchers, and gym leaders unfortunately fell into that category.
He closed his eyes breathing out heavily, congested places like this killed his nerves. Aleister briefly entertained the thought of 'perhaps all of these years, growing up on that nice open reserve, living on the equally open research island, and the general solitary lifestyle has made me agoraphobic.' but no that wasn't exactly the problem and he knew it. Crowds and hoards of Pokemon- that was fine and dandy, replace that with people and THAT was what seemed to trigger his high blood pressure. Trying to ease his nerves, be done and get out, he reached up to stroke Nana's back, she was always such a comfort to him...when she was there.
As his hand came in contact with nothing but the cold metal of the truck's hood, his eyes snapped open staring at the now empty space that had once been inhabited by his unmistakeable Eevee. He looked around frantically, hurrying doing a round of the truck, finding nothing his panic falling into full swing now. "Nana?!"
If the professor wasn't so estranged looking to begin with, perhaps some of the crowd would have found it, albeit unfortunate but a tad amusing. A grown man, looking around with a voice that matched a young child separated from its mother in a crowd. Hysteric tears threatening to form as he desperately scanned through the crowds that in his own mind seemed to be getting endlessly thicker, eyes judgingly falling on him. In reality people were starting to stare, but more out of concern for their own well being, parents pulling their children a bit further away from him as they passed by, others hurrying past if not going to the other side of the street all together. Vitex was about to hit full out melt down when he felt a hand land hard on his shoulder whipping him around the other way.
As he turned his eyes came completely level with a set of blue eyes that shined bright against dark fur, his nose nearly pressed flat against the Zoroark's snout that let out a bit of an annoyed grunt.'You're making a spectacle of yourself, haven't you learned that's something you shouldn't do? Especially with others that may know you.'
He stared at her for a long time, trying to register in his mind what was going on, putting mental blinders on focusing entirely on her and blocking out the rest of everything around him. Ignoring the two that he had spotted earlier knowing full well that they were the 'others' that she was referring to.
"M-maya? Wheres N-"
'I came with you because I knew you'd need more than that lazy little thing to keep you in check Aleister, shes sleeping in the sun back in the lab no doubt.' Her tone harsh and judging though he didn't seem to notice, as if that was just how she always spoke. 'I was just over this way-' nodding off a little ways past towards the shore. 'Something was going on that I wanted a better look at.'
Patting his head in an almost patronizing way, turning the still slightly confused scientist towards the ocean. He could just barely make it out but he could see the smoke rising from the ship in the distance.

Vitex stared out at the rising smoke, eyes locked on the flames that now roared after the second blast. Though his gaze slowly turned towards the crowd that was standing and gawking, some recording on their phones, several gasps of concern or worry, though not to his surprise at all very little was being done to try to help the situation.
He blinked looking towards Maya who was glaring angrily out at the sight nearest them.
'Typical…'
He knew what she was doing, and what she was judging, and despite agreeing with her- he was always at least to some level hoping to find some scrap of evidence that just may prove her wrong. Still he knew better, he knew how their nature was and how quickly people fled from the heat of flames or the sign of trouble. His gaze harsher even more towards those he recognized, among the crowd of useless on lookers. He didn't particular care for people but he felt some level of concern for those at sea, or at least told himself that.
He swept around towards the truck getting in, getting away from the crowd to try to think out just what he could do about this. It wasn't so much the people that were in trouble that concerned him, both he and Maya knew that.

The professor felt the phone in his pocket vibrate. He quickly retrieved it.
"This is Taivas," he answered, perplexed by the unknown number that had flashed on the screen. "Afternoon, Professor Cogitare," a familiar voice filled his ear. "Oh! Roxy!" he quickly formed a smile. "How are you?" "I have intel that suggests pirates are planning an attack on the S.S. Eve," Rhoxane Ritter whispered gravely. Taivas stopped for a moment. Undoubtedly his friend was risking a lot to call him. The hushed tone gave it away. "Well that would explain why the ship is late," he spoke, the delight from earlier replaced with a solemn tone. "And why there's smoke on the horizon where the ship should be." "Are you sure that is what is happening?" "Well, I mean, it could be a very large bonfire on some unknown island," the professor answered, realizing a moment too late that the was the wrong time for sarcasm. "Maybe. Probably not," he recovered. "I didn't think my intel would be this late," Roxy returned, annoyed at the turn of events. "Perhaps they started early. Let me text Guy will fast."
The professor remained silent while the conversation paused.
"He isn't responding," she broke the silence. "Well that's not good. I'm at the port now. I'll take Archy and see if we can go help." "Okay. Call me back when you get a chance. This is not the only thing we have to discuss." "Is this number safe to call you at?" "Depends on where I am. In my quarters then yes. In the hallway or something? Nope. I'm not even supposed to have this. I'll just put in on vibrate." "I figured as much. I'll call when I can." "Okay. Try not to take too long. Or die." "I'll see what I can do," Taivas laughed as he ended the call.
He turned to his companion, Jake. "Sorry, I have some bad news. Looks like we need to go rescue the champion and our newest Elite four member."

The moment he heard "bad news", an instant wave of nerves washed over Jake and his heart started beating faster. It wasn't exactly his favorite phrase to hear and he immediately expected the worst.
"Why, what happened?!" he questioned the professor, who merely told him there was no time to explain. I guess he would find out when they arrived at the scene... Jake quickly released Duskull and turned to face his Pokémon.
"Looks like we're flying again. Duskull, go out ahead of us and help in whatever way you can" he instructed as Cogitare and Archy took off. Duskull obeyed orders and quickly flew off after the professor. A few moments later, Haunter and Mandibuzz followed with Jake in tow. After lifting off, Jake started watching the horizon. For the first time, he noticed the dark smoke billowing out above it. Fire. Why the f*ck did he leave his only water type at home...
As Jake was catching up to Professor Cogitare, his heart and mind were both racing. What were they going to find when they arrived? What was the plan? Were his friends still alive? He began reciting in his head something he had heard years ago that helped him keep it together and stay strong. 'Fear is a choice.' His fear fueled his adrenaline. While Jake dreaded what was coming, he loved the feeling he got when his adrenaline took over and he felt like he was unstoppable. Since his previous journey, that adrenaline had been kicking in a lot more often, and his natural instincts would sometimes take things too far. He noticed it had been happening more often in battles, and he thought of how unstable Fireball is... Fire... Jake's focus turned back to reality at this thought and he saw the professor flying next to him.
"Hey!" he called out over the wind. "You have a water type, right?"
OOC: I'm assuming it was okay to have us both take off. Can't see what else we would possibly do haha.
